3. 28 october 1835 He Whakaputanga o Te Rangatiratanga o Nu Tireni/ The declaration of Independence was signed.
4. 6 february 1840 te tiriti o waltangi is signed
5.1845: New Zealand wars begin.
6. 1865: The native land court is established
7. 1872: The New Zealand War ends
8. 1906: James Carroll makes is speech in parliament
9. 1960: Waitangi day is established as a national day of commemoration. Thirteen years later, it becomes a national holiday
10. 1975: The waitangi Tribunal is set up. In 1985 its powers are extended to investigate historic claims
